30063posts · Joined 2006. #14 · Nov 30, 2008. normally the balancer belt doesnt go, i have watched and helped with a few cam belt changes, the balancer belt mostly comes out looking like new. perhaps when it had a change done earlier in life they reused the balancer belt and tensioner. The engine lost its smoothness and is now rough and coarse above 3000 rpm (with quite a bit of vibration), becoming very lound above 4500 rpm, although it is pulling very well. I paid almost £700 for the work and the car now sounds like a Subaru 60000kmbelt change interval was mainly for timing belts on early TS/JTS/Busso engines, don't remember what Alfa recommended for Boxer engines. With years and new materials used in making belts this interval was prolonged another 20-60kkm depending on engine.
